Nick's has decided to hire a 7th employee, and maybe even an 8th, but it won't be easy. Even as they do that, plans are being made for being able to stay open year round. How will they accomplish that? After all, Nick's is a seasonal shaved ice business in a trailer. It is next to impossible to sell shaved ice in the winter from a trailer.
Nick's has decided to raise the money, through grants and donations, to purchase an actual food truck and then it will be able to open year round. By having the shaved ice trailer and a food truck, it is projected that Nick's will be able to employ double the number of workers that they currently have.
If you ever visit Nick's you will immediately understand how much this job means to these wonderful young men and women. They are the best and most loyal workers you will ever encounter. They just needed a safe and enriching environment to work in, one that a food truck can provide. The best thing to see is the confidence that these workers have gained and to see that they relish that they are productive members of society.
Nick's ensures that they are rewarded for that loyalty too as they make well over minimum wage. It is important that the expectations are the same for them as it would be for anybody and that they are treated equally.
Nick's is trying to gain grants for the food truck but that is a very competitive process that could take years. In the meantime, it is reaching out to the wonderful people who love what Nick's stands for to donate whatever small amount they can to help Nick's first, add a new employee, and second, start building a fund to buy a food truck.
We need about $1000 to ensure we can hire another employee. The food truck will cost around $75,000 for the truck and to get it ready to open. There is a button below where you can go donate. Even small amounts are great because a lot of small amounts add up over time.
Click the button to see our fundraising campaign. If you can't donate right now but want to be part of the team and help us raise money, follow this link and join the team. After joining, you can share the campaign with others. If we are ever going to raise enough money for a food truck, it will take teamwork.
We open April 17, 2021 at 3:00. Please come visit us. We will be next to A.S. Dent Shop at 3034 Slide Rd. See you then.
Nick's has come so far from an idea in 1997 to a place that has changed lives. Check us out.
