The original plan was for Bruce and Nick to open every other weekend at a farmers market or small event and just sell a few cups of shaved ice, but something happened that set a chain of events into motion that would change the lives of a few really cool people.
Bruce was teaching at Lubbock's Vocational Transition Center. It is a place where high school graduates who have special needs can attend once they graduate and prepare for their transition into adulthood. They can stay until they are 22. Nick was a student there too.
It bothered Bruce that some of the graduates were good workers, but because of other reasons, either could not find, or hold, a job. He decided to include a few of them in Nick's. That meant that Nick's just went from working every other weekend to working almost every day of the summer.
Bruce decided to open the year before Nick graduated to see if it would actually succeed. Nick's had a successful first year and then opened for even more days in the second year, which is when Nick actually graduated.
Nick's eventually grew to 6 employees but then something else happened that would change Nick's even more......
